Learning Objectives

  • Students will identify nouns as words that name people, animals, places, or things.
  • Students will recognize nouns in simple sentences and short word lists.
  • Students will practice using nouns in spoken and written sentences.

What This Worksheet Covers

These identifying nouns worksheets for kindergarten give little learners their first introduction to one of the most fundamental grammar concepts: the noun. Students learn that nouns are words that name people, animals, places, and things, then practice spotting them in simple sentences and picture-supported word lists. Our kindergarten noun worksheets use big pictures, simple vocabulary, and plenty of examples so that even the youngest learners can start recognizing nouns with confidence. Building noun awareness in kindergarten creates a strong grammar foundation for the writing and reading work ahead.

How To Use This Worksheet

Start with a concrete, hands-on activity: hold up an object (a crayon, a book, a cup) and tell your child it is a noun because it has a name. Then work through the worksheet together, pointing at each picture and saying its name before circling or writing the answer. Keep the focus on the most familiar categories first, things and animals, before introducing places and people. Short, playful practice sessions work best for kindergarten kiddos.

Standards AlignmentL.K.1.B

L.K.1b requires kindergarteners to use frequently occurring nouns and verbs correctly. Noun identification worksheets support this standard by helping students recognize and name the words that will anchor their early sentences and stories.
