How do I use this telling time worksheet?⌄

What does this worksheet teach?⌄
These telling time worksheets for 1st grade give students the structured, hands-on practice they need to build confidence and fluency. Students work through a range of problem formats, from visual models and diagrams to written equations and word problems, so they encounter telling time from every angle. Each worksheet is designed to build on prior knowledge while introducing the level of challenge appropriate for 1st grade. Practicing telling time at this stage strengthens the mathematical foundations that support more advanced concepts in later grades.
What grade level is this for?⌄
This worksheet is designed for 1st Grade students (Ages 6-7), aligned to Common Core standard 1.MD.3. It can also be used as review for early students at the next grade level or as an introduction for advanced students.
Can I use this for homeschool or classroom?⌄
Yes. This worksheet works for homeschool, classroom, and tutoring settings. Print individual pages for targeted practice, or print the full set as a packet. Works great as a morning warm-up, independent center activity, or fast-finisher task.
What time-telling skills are expected in first grade?⌄
First graders should tell and write time to the hour and half-hour using both analog and digital clocks (CCSS 1.MD.B.3). They should understand that the hour hand points to the hour and the minute hand points to 12 (for on the hour) or 6 (for half past). Most curricula also introduce vocabulary like o'clock and half past.
How do you teach a first grader to read an analog clock?⌄
Start with the hour hand only: cover the minute hand and practice identifying what hour it points to. Once that is solid, introduce the minute hand. Teach that when the minute hand points to 12, it is exactly on the hour; when it points to 6, it is half past. Worksheets with clock faces at various times help students practice without a physical clock available.
Should first graders use analog or digital clocks?⌄
CCSS 1.MD.B.3 specifies both. Analog clock reading requires spatial reasoning and is more cognitively demanding, so teach it explicitly. Digital clocks are generally easier to read. Understanding both formats helps children in everyday life. Worksheets that show one format and ask students to draw or write the other reinforce conversion between representations.
