These words are chosen by grammatical role rather than meaning, which is a more abstract rule than most first grade vocabulary. Am, is, and are all mean roughly the same thing but change based on the subject of the sentence (I am, she is, they are), and I versus me depends on whether the word is doing the action or receiving it.
