Frequently Asked Questions

Maps begin with knowing where things are. Before a preschooler can read a map, they need words like in, on and under, and the idea that a small picture can stand for a real thing. Those two ideas are the start of every map skill that comes later. These 6 pages build them one at a time. Children circle whether a cat is in, on or under something, match pictures to simple map symbols, match places in town to what you do there, trace the way from home to school on a picture map, and color a map key with land in green and water in blue. On the last page children draw a map of their own bedroom, with the bed, door and window. Five of the pages have an answer key.
