What preschool writing and grammar worksheets are on ClassWeekly?

Preschool writing and grammar worksheets on ClassWeekly are free printable pages for children ages 3-5. Writing covers pre-writing lines and shapes, letter tracing, name writing, letters and beginning sounds, and drawing and early writing. Grammar is taught through pictures and listening, with no rules to memorize: opposites, one and many, he, she and they, positional words, and building a simple sentence. A grown-up reads every direction aloud.

Writing starts long before letters. A preschooler first needs the pencil control to draw lines, curves, zigzags and loops, because nearly every letter is built from those strokes. Grammar starts with listening: hearing that big is the opposite of small, that cats means more than one cat, and that a sentence tells about something.

The 410 worksheets here are split into 10 topics. The five writing topics come first. Pre-Writing Lines and Shapes (85 pages) has prewriting strokes, tracing paths, shapes, mazes, dot to dot, pencil control and cutting. Letter Tracing (60) traces capital letters A to Z with numbered arrows, Name Writing (27) works on the child's own name, Letter Recognition and Beginning Sounds (42) matches letters to pictures by their first sound, and Drawing and Early Writing (42) turns a child's drawings into first written words. The five grammar topics, Opposites, One and Many, He, She, and They, Positional Words and Build a Simple Sentence, use only pictures and words a grown-up says aloud. 245 of the pages come with an answer key.

Go slowly. Writing in all capitals, wobbly lines and backwards letters are all normal at this age. A few minutes a day does more than one long session.

Preschool writing pages are written for ages 3-5 and are not tied to a K-12 standard. When your child can write letters on their own and is ready for words and sentences, the Kindergarten writing and grammar pages pick up from here.
