Frequently Asked Questions

A life cycle is the way a living thing starts, grows, changes and makes new living things like itself. Preschoolers love the surprise in it: a caterpillar turns into a butterfly, a tadpole grows legs and becomes a frog, a seed becomes a flowering plant, and an egg hatches into a chick. Seeing the stages in order is a first lesson in change over time. The 40 pages here follow four life cycles, 10 pages each: butterfly, frog, plant and chicken. Every life cycle has the same activities, so a child who knows the butterfly pages knows how to do the frog ones: cut and paste the stages in order, circle what comes first and what comes next, match a baby to its grown-up, color a life cycle wheel, find a stage hidden in a scene and draw the missing stage. 32 of the pages have an answer key.
