5th Grade Figurative Language Worksheets

Ages 10-11 · 1 sub-topic · Free previews · Print-ready PDFs

These figurative language worksheets for 5th grade move from single sentences to poems and sayings. Students read a city poem and explain what each metaphor compares (CCSS L.5.5.A), match idioms, adages and proverbs like a blessing in disguise to their meanings (L.5.5.B), sort alliteration and onomatopoeia, and name and explain mixed examples of similes, metaphors, personification, hyperbole and idioms. Four original sheets, each with an answer key, ask students to explain meaning, not just label it.
