What 6th grade reading worksheets are on ClassWeekly?

6th grade reading worksheets on ClassWeekly are 175 printable sheets for ages 11-12 across 13 topics, each with an answer key. They cover fiction and nonfiction passages, paired texts, myths and folktales, poetry, story elements, main idea and summarizing, inference, text structure, claims and evidence, spelling, shades of meaning, multiple meaning words and dictionary skills.

6th grade reading asks students to back up every answer. A theme has to be supported with details from the text, a claim has to be checked against its evidence, and two texts on the same subject have to be compared, not just summarized.

The 175 worksheets here are split into 13 topics. Paragraphs and Passages is the biggest: 35 fiction passages and 28 nonfiction passages, such as The Second Chair, Fungi Under the Forest Floor, The Rosetta Stone and a Wangari Maathai biography (CCSS RL.6 and RI.6). Comprehension Exercises has 11 paired texts sheets plus author's purpose, identifying text structure, word choice and tone, fact vs opinion, claims and evidence, sequencing and text and graphics. Story Elements covers theme, narrator's point of view, character analysis and character, setting and plot. Myths and Folktales, Poetry, Main Idea and Summarizing, Making Inferences, Cause and Effect and Compare and Contrast round out the reading skills.

Word work sits here too: 20 spelling sheets (commonly misspelled words, double consonants, word endings, ie and ei words), connotation and shades of meaning, multiple meaning words, and dictionary and thesaurus skills (L.6.2, L.6.4 and L.6.5).

Every sheet has an answer key and shows its grade 6 Common Core code. One passage a day, with the answer key checked right away, builds more than a long weekend session.
