What kinds of questions do the poetry pages ask?

Each page starts with 2 or 3 multiple choice questions on figurative language, tone or structure, then asks students to quote lines and explain them. For example, Ode to the School Bus asks what calling the bus a "yellow queen" shows about the speaker.

How do these worksheets teach poem structure?

The Lighthouse Keeper asks how each stanza moves the story forward, from setting the scene to the ship in stanza 4. Before the Game asks why the poet puts only a word or two on each line when the ball rolls around the rim.

Are the poetry worksheets rhyming or free verse?

Both. My Grandfather's Hands and Ode to the School Bus rhyme, while City Rain and Before the Game do not, so students see how poets build mood with and without rhyme.
