What 6th grade vocabulary worksheets are on ClassWeekly?
6th grade vocabulary worksheets on ClassWeekly are 49 printable sheets for ages 11-12 across 6 topics, each with an answer key. They cover Greek and Latin roots, context clues, analogies, academic vocabulary, figurative language and literary devices, and homophones and homographs.
6th grade vocabulary is about working out words on your own. Texts in science and social studies use longer words built from Greek and Latin parts, and literature leans on figurative language, irony and allusion that a dictionary alone will not explain.
The 49 worksheets here are split into 6 topics. Greek and Latin Roots (10 sheets) and Context Clues (8) build the word-solving skills in CCSS L.6.4. Figurative Language (21) is the biggest topic: 10 figurative language practice sheets and 11 literary devices sheets on devices such as irony and archetypes (L.6.5.A and RL.6.4). Analogies works on word relationships (L.6.5.B), Academic Vocabulary covers the words school tasks are written in (L.6.6), and Homophones and Homographs works on words that sound or look alike.
Every sheet has an answer key. 45 of the 49 show their grade 6 Common Core code. 4 literary devices sheets on irony and archetypes carry no code, because Common Core does not name those devices at 6th grade.
Ten minutes on one topic is plenty. Talking about the words after the sheet helps them stick.
