5th Grade Compare and Contrast Worksheets

Ages 10-11 · 11 sub-topics · Free previews · Print-ready PDFs

These compare and contrast worksheets for 5th grade ask students to explain how two things in a text are alike and different, using details from the text. Story pages compare two characters, two settings or two events in one original story, such as rival twins at robotics camp or a farm and a Chicago apartment (CCSS RL.5.3). Other pages compare two stories on the same theme, two mysteries or two desert crossings (RL.5.9). Nonfiction pages compare two accounts of one event, a newspaper article and a letter about the Brooklyn Bridge opening, or two news reports on a town skate park debate, and note how the point of view differs (RI.5.6). The topic also has two passage sheets for each of ten more reading skills, each an original story, text or poem with a page of questions: main idea and summary, sequencing, story elements, inferences and conclusions, context clues, cause and effect, fact and opinion, predictions, figurative language and personification. 27 original sheets, each with an answer key.
