Frequently Asked Questions

Early writing starts with a child's own ideas. Long before they can spell, preschoolers can draw a picture, tell someone about it and watch a grown-up write their words down, which shows them that what they say can be written and read back. The 42 pages here build that step by step. On the draw and tell pages, a child draws their family, a favorite animal or their best day, then tells a grown-up about it while the grown-up writes their words. The I see a sentence pages have children look at a busy scene, trace the words I see a two times and draw one thing they spotted. Ten trace number words pages link writing with counting, from one to ten. There are no wrong answers on the drawing pages.
