What preschool reading worksheets are on ClassWeekly?

Preschool reading worksheets on ClassWeekly are free printable pages for children ages 3-5. They cover the alphabet, letter recognition, letter sounds, rhyming, syllables, sight words, word families, word building, sequencing, early reading comprehension, and poems. Most pages ask children to circle, match, color, or cut and paste while a grown-up reads the instructions aloud.

Before a child reads, they learn to hear. Rhymes, the beats in a word and the first sound in a name all come before letters on a page, and preschool is the time to play with them.

The 492 worksheets here are split into 11 topics. The Alphabet (99 pages) and Letter Sounds (85) are the biggest: tracing uppercase and lowercase letters, finding a letter in a crowd, and matching each letter to pictures that start with its sound. Rhyming, Syllables and Word Families train the ear. Sight Words, Word Building and short Reading Comprehension pages are the first steps into real words, and Sequencing and Poems bring in stories and rhythm. 440 of the pages come with an answer key.

Keep it short and playful. Five to ten minutes is plenty, and saying the words out loud together matters more than finishing the page.

Preschool reading pages are written for ages 3-5 and are not tied to a K-12 standard. When your child knows most letter sounds and is ready to sound out short words, the Kindergarten reading pages pick up from here.
