2nd Grade Vowels Worksheets
Ages 7-8 · 5 sub-topics · Free previews · Print-ready PDFs
These vowels worksheets for 2nd grade move from hearing long and short vowels to spelling them in longer words. Children sort words like crab and trail or brick and bright by long or short vowel (CCSS RF.2.3.A), sort long vowel words by spelling pattern, such as a_e, ai and ay or igh, y and ie, and finish sentences with words like snail, night and glue (RF.2.3.B). Other pages cover bossy r spellings like or, ore and oar or air, are and ear, the vowel sounds in words like shout, coin, launch and moon, and two syllable words like cupcake, tiger and butterfly (RF.2.3.C). Two pages have an original story, about a stormy farm morning or a town parade, where children underline the vowel words and sort them. There are 33 original sheets, each with an answer key.
