Frequently Asked Questions

Second grade map worksheets move past simply recognizing a map into actually using one: naming the fifty states, reading a compass rose, planning a route, following a map legend, and reading resource and land-use maps that show what a place grows or how its land is used. This lines up with the C3 Framework's geography dimension (D2.Geo.1.K-2), which asks students to construct maps and other geographic representations and use them to answer questions about the relationships between locations of places and regions. Unlike a kindergarten or first grade map page, most second grade map worksheets pair the map with a short reading passage or several short-answer questions rather than a single label-and-color task.
