How is 'retelling' different from the read-and-answer format used in most biography worksheets?

Most biography worksheets ask a student to read a passage and then answer short-answer questions about it, testing comprehension. A retelling worksheet instead asks the student to produce the story themselves from a set of facts, a genuinely different and harder writing skill: putting a true story into your own words while keeping the order it actually happened.

Why does this set pair retelling specifically with Lincoln and Washington?

Both Lincoln and Washington already have a dedicated Biographies worksheet and a dedicated Timelines worksheet elsewhere in the set, so by the time a student reaches the retelling worksheet, they've already read the facts and seen the sequence of events, giving them the raw material to write the story confidently in their own words rather than starting from nothing.
