How is the synonyms crossword different from the regular synonyms worksheet?

The regular synonyms worksheet is straightforward word-bank matching. The crossword adds a puzzle layer: your child has to think of a synonym, then confirm it fits the correct number of letters and matches any crossing answers already filled in. If a synonym they thought of doesn't fit the grid, that's a nudge to think of a different one instead of giving up.

My child mixes up synonyms and antonyms sometimes. How do I help that stick?

Ask them to say what a synonym or antonym is in their own words before starting either worksheet: a synonym means almost the same thing, an antonym means the opposite. Doing a quick side-by-side example, like happy and glad for synonyms and happy and sad for antonyms, right before starting usually resets the distinction for the rest of the page.

Recognizing a synonym on a multiple-choice list is easier than producing one, but producing one is the real test of whether a word is truly known. These worksheets use a word bank to keep the task manageable, but your child still has to match each clue word to the right bank word by meaning, which is a step up from simple recognition.
