4th Grade Figurative Language Worksheets

Ages 9-10 · 1 sub-topic · Free previews · Print-ready PDFs

These figurative language worksheets for 4th grade teach students to spot language that does not mean exactly what it says. Students sort similes from metaphors and underline the two things being compared (CCSS L.4.5.A), match idioms like under the weather to their real meanings (L.4.5.B), find the human action in personification sentences, and tell hyperbole from literal statements. Four original sheets, each with an answer key, use short everyday sentences so the focus stays on the figure of speech.
