Tool, Worker and Product Analogies
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Tool, Worker and Product Analogies" is written for 6th Grade (Ages 11-12), and it covers Common Core L.6.5.B. If your student is a year younger but already steady here, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and analogies never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

6th grade vocabulary worksheet: finish 12 analogies like pen is to writer as scalpel is to surgeon and code them TW, WT or WP. Answer key included. Part of our analogies collection. Aligned to Common Core standards.

FAQ
How do I use this analogies worksheet?
⌄
Have students say each analogy aloud as A is to B as C is to D. Ask them to name the relationship before they choose a word.
What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Finish 12 analogies like pen is to writer as scalpel is to surgeon and code them TW, WT or WP. In an analogy, both pairs must be related the same way. In rolling pin: baker, a tool comes first and the worker who uses it second. The directions on the page read: Decide how the first two words are related. Circle the word that completes the analogy in the same way. Then write the code for the relationship (TW, WT or WP) in the box. An answer key is included.
Can I use this analogies worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 6th Grade analogies, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
What is a part to whole analogy?
⌄
One word is a part of the other, like petal and flower or page and book. Part to Whole Analogies has 12 items with 4 choices each.
What do the codes TW, WT and WP mean?
⌄
On Tool, Worker and Product Analogies, TW means tool to worker, WT means worker to tool and WP means worker to product. Baker is to bread is WP.
How do students check synonym and antonym analogies?
⌄
They circle S or A for each pair. Hot is to cold is an antonym pair, so early pairs with late.
