Trace the Way From Home to School
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Trace the Way From Home to School" is written for Preschool (Ages 3-5). Children who are new to this can work with a grown-up beside them, and the instructions are meant to be read aloud. Older children who need more practice with maps and places can use it as a short review.

Free printable preschool maps worksheet: trace the dashed path from home past the playground and bakery to school. Answer key included. Part of our maps and places collection.
How do I use this worksheet?
Play with position words first: put a toy in, on and under a box. For the bedroom map, stand in the doorway together and talk about where things are before drawing. Keep the maps simple; the idea that a picture can show a real place is the big step.
What students will practice
- Students will use the position words in, on and under.
- Students will match pictures to simple map symbols and places in town to what people do there.
- Students will follow a route on a picture map and draw a simple map of a familiar room.

What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Six first map pages for ages 3-5. Children circle whether a cat is in, on or under something, match pictures to map symbols, match places in town to what you do there, trace the way from home to school with a finger and then a crayon, and color land green and water blue using a key. The last page has them draw a map of their bedroom with the bed, door and window. Five pages have an answer key.
Can I use this maps and places worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for Preschool maps, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with maps and places. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
How many Preschool maps and places worksheets are there?
⌄
6 printable worksheets, all free to preview. Downloads are included with a ClassWeekly free trial, and every page prints on standard 8.5 x 11 paper.
What age are maps and places worksheets for?
⌄
These are written for preschool children, roughly ages 3-5. Start with the first few pages, use the free preview to judge the fit, and come back to harder ones as your child gets steadier.
Does my child need to know how to write for these maps and places worksheets?
⌄
No. Most pages ask children to circle, trace, match, color, or cut and paste, and a few ask for a single number. A grown-up can read the instructions aloud, so children do not need to read yet.
