Object and Use Analogies
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Object and Use Analogies" is written for 4th Grade (Ages 9-10), and it covers Common Core L.4.5. If your little one is a year younger but already steady here, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and analogies never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

4th grade vocabulary worksheet: complete object and use analogies, like calculator is to compute, from a word bank. Answer key included. Part of our analogies collection. Aligned to Common Core standards.
How do I use this worksheet?
Before choosing a word, have your child say the link between the first pair as a full sentence. If an answer is wrong, test it by saying the second pair the same way. Check with the answer key.
What students will practice
- Students will complete synonym and antonym analogies.
- Students will complete part to whole and object and use analogies.
- Students will explain the link between two words and use it in a new pair.

FAQ
How do I use this analogies worksheet?
⌄
Before choosing a word, have your child say the link between the first pair as a full sentence. If an answer is wrong, test it by saying the second pair the same way. Check with the answer key.
What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Complete object and use analogies, like calculator is to compute, from a word bank. An analogy shows that two pairs of words are related in the same way. In an object and use analogy, the second word tells what you do with the first. The directions on the page read: Read each analogy. Then, write a word from the bank to complete it. The page opens with a worked example, and the answer key shows every answer.
Can I use this analogies worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 4th Grade analogies, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
What is an analogy?
⌄
An analogy shows that two pairs of words are related in the same way. Hot is to cold as up is to down works because both pairs are opposites. The skill is finding the link in the first pair and applying it to the second.
How do you teach analogies to 4th graders?
⌄
Have your child say the link as a sentence: a page is part of a book, so a petal is part of a flower. Saying it out loud turns a puzzle into a pattern. These sheets start with one kind of link per page before mixing them.
Are analogies part of the 4th grade standards?
⌄
CCSS L.4.5.C asks students to relate words to their synonyms and antonyms, which is exactly what synonym and antonym analogies practice. Part to whole and object and use analogies build the same reasoning and appear on many reading tests.
Is there an answer key for each worksheet?
⌄
Yes. All four analogies sheets have an answer key.
