Third Grade Reading Comprehension
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Third Grade Reading Comprehension" is written for 3rd Grade (Ages 8-9). Children a grade either side can use it too: younger ones with an adult reading it aloud, older ones as a quick refresher.

2 pages in this set
Read a passage about how busy bees help plants grow, then answer the questions. Includes an answer key. Part of our reading comprehension collection.
How do I use this resource?
Read the passage once for meaning, then a second time with a highlighter to mark nectar, pollen and pollination. Questions 3 and 4 ask kids to go back to the text, so model how to find the sentence that holds the answer. It fits a science and reading block or a spring garden unit. At home, read it together, then look at a flower outside and talk about where a bee would find the pollen.
What's inside

What does this resource teach?
⌄
A grade 3 nonfiction reading page about how bees carry pollen from flower to flower and why that matters for foods like apples, blueberries, cucumbers and pumpkins. The passage has four short paragraphs. Four questions follow: a main idea question and a vocabulary question on the word pollination, both multiple choice, then two written answers asking for a detail and a food example. A second page gives the answer key.

Can I use this reading comprehension resource for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 3rd Grade english & reading, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with reading comprehension. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
How many 3rd Grade reading comprehension resources are there?
⌄
1 printable resource, all free to preview. Downloads are included with a ClassWeekly free trial, and every page prints on standard 8.5 x 11 paper.
What age are reading comprehension resources for?
⌄
These are written for 3rd Grade students, roughly ages 8-9. Many teachers also use them a grade up for review or a grade down as an extension, so use the preview to judge the fit for a particular child.
