FAQ
How do I use the Days and Months Cards for English Learners?
⌄
Cut out the cards and have children put the days in order, then the months. Use them at calendar time to find today, yesterday and tomorrow. Sort the month cards under the four season cards, and talk about the birthdays and holidays in each one.
What is included in Days and Months Cards for English Learners?
⌄
5 pages: a cover and 4 printable pages. Page 1: Days of the week cards, Sunday to Saturday with short forms, plus a week card. Page 2: Month cards for January to June, each with a short form and a picture. Page 3: Month cards for July to December, each with a short form and a picture. Page 4: Season cards for winter, spring, summer and fall, each listing its three months.
Can I use the Days and Months Cards for English Learners at home and in the classroom?
⌄
Yes. We made it for Kindergarten to 2nd Grade ell resources, and it works the same at home or at school. Families print it for one child and keep it where they will use it every day. Teachers print a copy per student or one for the whole room, whichever the day needs.
What ELL resources are on this page?
⌄
Fourteen picture card sets on everyday themes: All About Me, classroom objects, food and drink, clothes, colors, days and months, numbers 1 to 100, family, feelings, jobs, shopping, transportation, daily routine and home. Each theme also has a one-page matching resource. There is a newcomer survival phrases mat, a set of classroom directions cards, an English Learners Starter Pack and two Halloween pages.
What grades are these English learner resources for?
⌄
They are written for Kindergarten to 2nd grade. Every word comes with a clear picture, so the cards and mats also help older newcomers who are just starting English.
How do I use picture vocabulary cards with English learners?
⌄
Cut the cards apart, show one, and say the word together. Then use the words: find the real object in the room, sort the cards into groups, or play a memory game with two copies. Short, daily practice with a few cards works better than the whole set at once.
Do the matching resources have answer keys?
⌄
Yes. Each of the 14 matching resources has an answer key. The sentence at the bottom of each sheet can be finished with more than one word, so the key shows one example. The card sets and the phrases mat are for speaking practice and have no key.
What should a newcomer learn first?
⌄
Start with words they need right away: the survival phrases mat (I need help, May I go to the bathroom?, I don't understand), the classroom directions cards, and the classroom objects cards. Children can point to a picture to be understood before they can say the words.
