Free printable subjects and predicates worksheets for 4th grade. This fundamental sentence analysis skill underpins all grammar instruction at the 4th grade level. Part of our sentences worksheets collection.

- Identify the complete subject and complete predicate in sentences
- Divide sentences correctly into their subject and predicate parts
- Write original sentences that include clear subjects and predicates
FAQ
How do students identify the predicate of a sentence?⌄
Students first identify the subject (who or what), then everything else in the sentence — the verb and all associated words — constitutes the predicate, which tells what the subject does or is.
What is the difference between a simple predicate and a complete predicate?⌄
The simple predicate is just the main verb ('ran'), while the complete predicate includes the verb plus all its complements, objects, and modifiers ('ran quickly through the neighborhood park').
How does understanding subjects and predicates help students write better sentences?⌄
When students can clearly identify what their sentence is about (subject) and what they're saying about it (predicate), they can ensure every sentence is complete and focused on one clear idea.
