4th Grade Creative Writing Worksheets

Ages 9-10 · 7 sub-topics · Free previews · Print-ready PDFs

Creative writing is planning and writing your own stories and ideas. These creative writing worksheets for 4th grade cover story writing and persuasive writing (CCSS W.4.3, W.4.1). Twelve two-page story sheets pair a topic, like the day gravity stopped or a dragon egg, with an organizer for one craft skill, such as a story arc, mood words or show, not tell. Seventeen one-page planners cover tall tales, adventures, fantasy and realistic fiction, plus a locked room mystery with alibis, historical fiction on the Oregon Trail with a fact card, an underwater science fiction town, a surprise ending with an early clue and a story told by two narrators. Three dialogue pages punctuate a short story about building a birdhouse (L.4.2.B), replace said with words like whispered (L.4.3.A) and plan a scene where action beats show feelings. The persuasive pages sort fact and opinion, pick a side, fill in an OREO organizer, practice persuasive linking words, frame a persuasive paragraph and write a counterargument. There are 38 sheets; the 2 dialogue fix-up pages have an answer key.
