The digits of each multiple of 9 always sum to 9 (or a multiple of 9) — for example 18: 1+8=9, 27: 2+7=9, 36: 3+6=9 — a self-checking trick that makes the 9s memorable.
How can students use the 10s sequence to help with the 9s?⌄
Each multiple of 9 is one less than the corresponding multiple of 10 — so 9×3 = 10×3 - 3 = 27 — a strategy that connects the already-known 10s sequence to the harder 9s.
