FAQ
What is a remainder, and how do students determine it?⌄
A remainder is the amount left over after dividing as evenly as possible — students find the largest multiple of the divisor that fits in the dividend, then subtract it to find what's left: for 17 ÷ 5, the closest multiple is 15 (5 × 3), and 17 – 15 = 2, so the remainder is 2.
How do remainders connect to real-world division contexts?⌄
Real situations like distributing items among a group (25 cookies among 4 kids: each gets 6 with 1 left over) make remainders concrete and meaningful — word problems alongside these worksheets strengthen the connection.
What constraint applies to a valid remainder?⌄
The remainder must always be less than the divisor — if the remainder is equal to or greater than the divisor, the quotient is too small and should be increased by at least 1.
