Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"History of Chocolate Comprehension" is written for 3rd Grade (Ages 8-9). Children a grade either side can use it too: younger ones with an adult reading it aloud, older ones as a quick refresher.

4 pages in this set
Read the sweet history of chocolate, then answer comprehension questions. Includes an answer key, grades 3 to 5. Part of our nonfiction comprehension english & reading collection.
How do I use this resource?
Read the passage once for the story, then a second time with a pencil to underline dates and names. Question 7 asks children to put three events in order, so a quick timeline on the board helps. Question 10 asks for an opinion backed by the text, which works well as a partner talk before writing. Pair it with a social studies lesson on trade, or a hot chocolate treat on a winter Friday.

A nonfiction reading passage for grades 3 to 5 about the history of chocolate. It traces cacao from the rainforests of Central and South America to the Olmec, Maya and Aztecs, Spanish explorers in the 1500s, and the first solid bars in England in 1847. Ten questions mix multiple choice, true or false, fill in the blank, vocabulary, sequencing and short written answers. Two Did you know? boxes add facts, and an answer key is included.

Can I use this nonfiction comprehension resource for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 3rd Grade english & reading, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with nonfiction comprehension. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
