What is the difference between a fact and an opinion for a kindergartener?

A fact is something that is true, like dogs have four legs. An opinion tells what you think, like dogs are the best. These pages ask for facts, so ask your child, "Is that true, or is that what you think?"

Do kindergarteners need to read the facts?

A grown-up reads the page aloud, and the facts are short, with the key word traced by the child. Children match the word to the picture, which builds reading and writing together.

Is there an answer key for each All About page?

Yes. All 10 sheets have a key with a marking guide and a model drawing. Because children draw their own pictures, the key shows what a correct fact and a complete drawing look like.

What writing skills do kindergartners practice?

Kindergartners practice opinion, informative and narrative writing through drawing, dictating and writing (CCSS W.K.1 to W.K.3), along with forming letters and starting a sentence with a capital. These pages keep the writing small: a child traces a word, draws a picture and a grown-up reads the directions aloud.

What order should I use the kindergarten writing pages in?

Start with the opinion pages, where a child picks a favorite and traces its name. Move to the narrative pages, which add first, next and last, then the informative All About pages and the writing process pages. Capital letters and writing practice pages can be mixed in at any point.

My child cannot write sentences yet. Can they use these?

Yes. The new sheets are built around tracing and drawing, so a child can finish them before writing a sentence alone. Ask your child to say the sentence out loud while you point to each word.

Is there an answer key for each writing worksheet?

Yes. All 36 new opinion, narrative, informative and writing process sheets have a one page answer key with a marking guide and a model drawing.
