FAQ
How do students mentally divide by a multiple of 10?⌄
Divide by the non-zero digit first (using a known fact), then divide by 10 — for example, 360 ÷ 40: 360 ÷ 4 = 90, then 90 ÷ 10 = 9.
What is the shortcut for dividing by a multiple of 100?⌄
Divide by the non-zero digit, then divide by 100 — or cancel zeros: 4,200 ÷ 700 → cancel two zeros from each to get 42 ÷ 7 = 6.
How does zero-cancellation work in division by whole tens or hundreds?⌄
If both dividend and divisor end in zeros, those zeros can be cancelled in pairs — reducing the problem to a simpler basic fact before applying the result.
