Prediction worksheets
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Prediction worksheets" is written for 3rd Grade (Ages 8-9), and it covers Common Core RL.3.1. If your little one is a year younger but already steady on comprehension exercises, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and prediction worksheets never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

Prediction worksheets - original 3rd grade reading worksheet with answer key. Part of our prediction worksheets comprehension exercises collection. Aligned to Common Core standards.
How do I use this worksheet?
Begin with a shared reading or oral warm-up that highlights prediction worksheets so students hear and see the skill in context before practicing it independently. Have students work through it independently, using a partner or small group only if they want to talk through their thinking, especially for phonics-based tasks where saying an answer aloud first helps. After completing the worksheet, use one or two examples from the page to start a discussion: "Where else have you seen this in your reading?" These prediction worksheets worksheets are ideal for use during small group reading time, as independent center work, or as a homework activity.
What students will practice

What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
These prediction worksheets worksheets for 3rd grade give students focused practice with one of the key skills in early literacy. Students read, identify, and respond to prediction worksheets through a variety of activities designed for their grade level. Our comprehension exercises worksheets build both decoding skills and reading comprehension, helping students connect what they practice on paper to the books they read every day. Regular practice with prediction worksheets strengthens the reading skills that 3rd grade students need to become confident, independent readers.
Can I use this prediction worksheets worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 3rd Grade comprehension exercises, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with prediction worksheets. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
How does making predictions improve reading comprehension for 3rd graders?
⌄
Predicting gives students a purpose for reading - they read to confirm or revise their predictions - which increases engagement and helps them monitor their understanding as they read.
What types of evidence do students use to make predictions in 3rd grade worksheets?
⌄
Students draw on the title, illustrations, headings, prior knowledge, and clues from the text itself to make reasonable predictions about what will happen next.
How do prediction worksheets teach students to revise their thinking?
⌄
Students learn that predictions can be updated as new information is revealed - a metacognitive skill that teaches flexible thinking and careful reading habits.
