How to write 1
Start at the top and pull one straight line down to the bottom, without lifting the pencil. A little rhyme helps: "Start at the top, then down we run. That's the way we make a 1."

Frequently Asked Questions
One nose, one sun, one candle on a first birthday cake. Number 1 is where counting starts, and it is the simplest numeral to write: a single line from top to bottom. Preschoolers trace the number 1 on five picture pages (rabbits, bees, orange butterflies, carrots and stars), then count the pictures beside it. They also trace the word "one," circle every 1 hidden on a page, and fill ten frames. Kindergarten pages ask children to count and color one object, print the numeral beside a happy caveman, and trace and recognize 1 next to a friendly turtle. Each page takes only a few minutes, which suits short attention spans.
