How do the goods and services sorting worksheets work?

Each sorting worksheet gives a word bank of jobs, items, or activities and asks students to sort them into two columns, goods and services, using the same two-column sorting format across all three worksheets in the set but with different word banks each time. Repeating the same sort with fresh vocabulary three times, rather than doing one longer worksheet, gives students multiple chances to apply the same reasoning to new examples, which is a stronger way to check real understanding than a single long list. A related 'write the room' activity has students walk around the classroom recording goods and services they spot in real classroom objects and posters, connecting the sorting skill to the physical classroom environment.

Why is sorting goods and services considered harder than sorting wants and needs?

Wants and needs sorts by how essential something is, a concept kindergartners can often judge by instinct, while goods and services sorts by a more abstract property, whether something is a physical object or an action performed by a person, which requires the child to think about the nature of the item itself rather than how much they want it. Because this is a genuinely harder distinction, goods and services worksheets typically come after wants and needs in a kindergarten economics sequence, building on the sorting skill the child already practiced with an easier concept before applying it to a harder one.
