Fifth graders should fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm (CCSS 5.NBT.B.5) and multiply decimals to hundredths (5.NBT.B.7). They should also extend multiplication to fractions, multiplying a whole number or fraction by a fraction (5.NF.B.4), and understand scaling (multiplying by a fraction greater or less than 1 changes the size of the other factor).
