1st Grade Word Families Worksheets

Ages 6-7 · 1 sub-topic · Free previews · Print-ready PDFs

These word families worksheets for 1st grade cover one short vowel per page: short a, short e, short i, short o and short u. On each page children add a first letter to three word family endings, such as at, an and ap or ug, un and uck, and write each new word. A sort page asks children to file words into the ake, ar and at families. Building words this way helps children read and spell many words from one ending (CCSS RF.1.3.B). Six original sheets, each with an answer key.
