Frequently Asked Questions

Fine motor skills are the small movements of the hands and fingers that let a child hold a pencil, use scissors and color inside a shape. Between ages 3 and 5 these muscles are still getting stronger, which is why tracing and cutting come before writing letters, and why a wobbly line at this age is completely normal. The 30 pages here give that practice five ways. Children trace straight, slanted, wavy, zigzag and looped paths from a green dot to a picture, cut along strips and around a spiral snake, draw a path through simple mazes, join dots to draw a house, a star or a sailboat, and stay inside curvy roads and big shapes. Every page shows a green starting dot, and 13 pages have an answer key.
