Prewriting, loops - Set 2: Trace each dashed line from the left picture to the right picture. Keep your pencil on the path. Tracing loops builds the hand control a child needs to form letters. Part of our prewriting strokes handwriting collection.

How do I use this worksheet?

Let the child trace the path with a finger first, then with a chunky crayon. Show them to start on the left picture every time, which matches the direction of reading and writing.

What students will practice

  • Students will trace straight, curved, zigzag, looped, slanted and humped lines.
  • Students will keep the pencil on a dashed path from start to finish.
  • Students will practice the basic strokes that later make up letters.

FAQ

How do I use this prewriting strokes worksheet?

⌄

Let the child trace the path with a finger first, then with a chunky crayon. Show them to start on the left picture every time, which matches the direction of reading and writing.

What does this worksheet teach?

⌄

Each page has dashed paths that run from a picture on the left to a picture on the right. Children trace along each path, with one type of line per page. These strokes come before letter writing and build hand control.

Can I use this prewriting strokes worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for Preschool handwriting, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with prewriting strokes. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.

How many Preschool prewriting strokes worksheets are there?

⌄

16 printable worksheets, all free to preview. Downloads are included with a ClassWeekly free trial, and every page prints on standard 8.5 x 11 paper.

What age are prewriting strokes worksheets for?

⌄

These are written for preschool children, roughly ages 3-5. Start with the first few pages, use the free preview to judge the fit, and come back to harder ones as your child gets steadier.

Does my child need to write letters already?

⌄

No. Pages start with tracing over dashed guides and build up to writing on their own, one small step at a time.
