Rainbow colors
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Rainbow colors" is written for Preschool (Ages 3-5). Children who are new to this can work with a grown-up beside them, and the instructions are meant to be read aloud. Older children who need more practice with light and color can use it as a short review.

Free printable preschool science worksheet on light and color. Answer key included. Part of our light and color earth and sky collection.
How do I use this worksheet?
Start with something students can look at or think about: a photo, a short video, a jar on the windowsill, or a question like "what do you already know about light and color?" Then let them work through it side by side with you, since most Pre-K students are still building the fine motor control and attention span for independent seatwork, keeping a word bank or anchor chart in view so the vocabulary stays available. When you review, ask students how they knew, and let them point to the part of the diagram or reading that told them. These light and color worksheets work well as a lead in before an investigation, as a way to capture what students noticed afterward, or as review before an assessment.
What students will practice
- Students will observe and describe light and color using accurate science vocabulary.
- Students will gather evidence about light and color from pictures, real objects, and things they notice.
- Students will use what they learn about light and color to explain what they see and answer questions about the world around them.

What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
These light and color worksheets for Pre-K give students a clear, visual way to work through one of the big ideas in earth and sky. Students label diagrams, sort and classify examples, read short explanations, and answer questions that ask them to say why, not just what. Each page keeps the science vocabulary front and center so students leave with the words they need to talk about light and color accurately. Working through light and color on paper gives Pre-K students something concrete to hold onto before, during, or after the hands on part of a lesson.
Can I use this light and color worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for Preschool earth and sky, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with light and color. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
How many Preschool light and color worksheets are there?
⌄
1 printable worksheet, all free to preview. Downloads are included with a ClassWeekly free trial, and every page prints on standard 8.5 x 11 paper.
What age are light and color worksheets for?
⌄
These are written for preschool children, roughly ages 3-5. Start with the first few pages, use the free preview to judge the fit, and come back to harder ones as your child gets steadier.
Does my child need to know how to write for these light and color worksheets?
⌄
No. Most pages ask children to circle, trace, match, color, or cut and paste, and a few ask for a single number. A grown-up can read the instructions aloud, so children do not need to read yet.
