Physical Science: Speed and energy
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Physical Science: Speed and energy" is written for 4th Grade (Ages 9-10), and it covers NGSS 4-PS3-1. If your little one is a year younger but already steady on energy, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and speed and energy never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

4th grade science worksheet: Speed and energy. Read the passage. Then answer the questions. Part of our speed and energy energy collection. Aligned to NGSS standards.
How do I use this worksheet?
Start with something students can look at or think about: a photo, a short video, a jar on the windowsill, or a question like "what do you already know about speed and energy?" Then let them work through it independently, since students at this age benefit more from productive struggle than from being walked through each step, keeping a word bank or anchor chart in view so the vocabulary stays available. When you review, ask students how they knew, and let them point to the part of the diagram or reading that told them. These speed and energy worksheets work well as a lead in before an investigation, as a way to capture what students noticed afterward, or as review before an assessment.
What students will practice
- Students will observe and describe speed and energy using accurate science vocabulary.
- Students will gather evidence about speed and energy from diagrams, readings, data, and their own investigations.
- Students will use what they learn about speed and energy to explain what they see and answer questions about the world around them.

What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
These speed and energy worksheets for 4th grade give students a clear, visual way to work through one of the big ideas in energy. Students label diagrams, sort and classify examples, read short explanations, and answer questions that ask them to say why, not just what. Each page keeps the science vocabulary front and center so students leave with the words they need to talk about speed and energy accurately. Working through speed and energy on paper gives 4th grade students something concrete to hold onto before, during, or after the hands on part of a lesson.
Can I use this speed and energy worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 4th Grade energy, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with speed and energy. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
How many 4th Grade speed and energy worksheets are there?
