How to write B and b

Uppercase B:
Pull a straight line down from the top to the baseline. Go back to the top and make two bumps to the right, the first meeting the line in the middle and the second, slightly bigger one ending at the bottom.
Lowercase b:
Start at the top line and pull a tall straight line all the way down. Without lifting the pencil, trace back up partway and curve out to the right to make a round bump that closes at the baseline.

Frequently Asked Questions

B is one of the easiest sounds to feel. Ask your child to press their lips together and let a little puff of air pop out: that's /b/. Little ones trace a tall uppercase B and a lowercase b with its round belly, circle every Bb in a letter box, then say ball, bear and bus on the beginning sounds page. A "B is for ball" sheet follows. Kindergarten brings a tracing page and a letter recognition sheet with a bat. First graders search for B words in a grid. When you want more, the practice row mixes B in with its neighbors, and a cursive B page is there for later on. Several pages come with answer keys.
