FAQ

How do I use this division facts and mental strategies worksheet?

⌄

Check every quotient by multiplying: if 56 divided by 7 is 8, then 8 times 7 should be 56. For dividing by 10 and 100, ask how many tens or hundreds are in the number. Use the color by number page for relaxed fact practice.

What does this worksheet teach?

⌄

Divide by finding the missing factor with a multiplication fact. A quotient is the answer to a division problem. Think of the multiplication fact with the missing factor, a number you multiply. The directions on the page read: Read the example. Then, write the missing factor in the first box and the quotient in the second box. The page opens with a worked example, and the answer key shows every answer.

Can I use this division facts and mental strategies worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for 4th Grade mental division, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with division facts and mental strategies. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.

How does division by 10 and 100 work?

⌄

Think in tens and hundreds. The number 270 is 27 tens, so 270 ÷ 10 = 27, and 5,300 is 53 hundreds, so 5,300 ÷ 100 = 53.

How does a multiplication fact help me divide?

⌄

To find 56 ÷ 7, ask what number times 7 makes 56. Since 7 × 8 = 56, the quotient is 8. Division facts to 12 are the inverse of the multiplication table, so strong multiplication facts make division quick.

What is the mental division strategy?

⌄

Break the dividend into two easy parts. For 84 ÷ 4, split 84 into 80 and 4, divide each part by 4 to get 20 and 1, then add to get 21.

Which standards do these sheets support?

⌄

The mental division sheet supports 4.NBT.B.6, which covers dividing with strategies based on place value, properties and the relationship to multiplication.

How many 4th Grade division facts and mental strategies worksheets are there?

⌄

5 printable worksheets, all free to preview. Downloads are included with a ClassWeekly free trial, and every page prints on standard 8.5 x 11 paper.

What age are division facts and mental strategies worksheets for?

⌄
