Can I use the Kindergarten Weekly Word Lists: Weeks 19-27 at home and in the classroom?
⌄
Yes. We made it for Kindergarten spelling lists, and it works the same at home or at school. Families print it for one child and keep it where they will use it every day. Teachers print a copy per student or one for the whole room, whichever the day needs.
How many words are on each kindergarten list?
⌄
5 words a week for 36 weeks, a full school year.
How are the kindergarten word lists organized?
⌄
By word family, in short vowel order: short a families such as -at, -an and -ap first, then short i, o and u, short e, mixed short vowels and words with sh, ch, th and wh, with sight word weeks in between. The full-year file shows all 36 lists on three pages.
Is there a kindergarten spelling test?
⌄
No. Children read the words, trace each one and copy it. There is no test, because kindergarten children trace and copy words rather than spell from memory.
How do I use the kindergarten word lists through the week?
⌄
Send the list home on Monday and read the words together each day. Children trace and copy each word, then look for the words in books and around the room. On Friday, read the whole list aloud together instead of a test.
