2nd grade cursive typically starts with the easiest lowercase letters, the ones built from a simple round curve: c, a, o, e, and a few others that share the same starting stroke. Full uppercase cursive and the harder lowercase letters (like the more complex loops in f, g, and z) usually wait until 3rd grade, when most schools teach the complete cursive alphabet. Simple letter joins (two or three letters connected into a short unit, not yet full words) often appear by the end of 2nd grade once several letters are solid. If your child's school introduces cursive in 2nd grade, expect a narrower, simpler slice of the full alphabet rather than the whole thing at once.

Very normal, especially in the first few months of cursive instruction. A 2nd grader is still building print fluency at the same time cursive is introduced, so it's common to see a cursive a next to a print b in the same word for a while. This usually sorts itself out with consistent, separate practice time for each (don't mix cursive and print practice in the same worksheet or session) rather than needing any special intervention. If the mixing is still happening heavily by the end of the school year, extra cursive-only practice, focused on just the letters already introduced, is more useful than moving ahead to new letters.

Ten minutes, two to three times a week, is a reasonable amount for 2nd grade cursive, since it's usually a secondary focus alongside ongoing print handwriting and other language arts work. Daily practice isn't necessary at this stage the way it is for a child cramming the full alphabet in 3rd grade. Short, consistent sessions on a small number of letters at a time work better than occasional longer sessions trying to cover more ground, since cursive is fundamentally a motor skill that builds through repetition, not through length of any single session.
