What handwriting worksheets are on ClassWeekly?

Handwriting worksheets on ClassWeekly cover print letter formation for kindergarten through 2nd grade: pre-writing strokes, uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and simple sentence copying. Every worksheet uses a tri-line guide (a solid baseline, a dashed midline, and a top line) so kids learn correct letter height and placement, not just letter shape.

Handwriting is print, not cursive. It's the letter formation kids need before they can write independently: holding a pencil correctly, forming each letter with the right strokes in the right order, and keeping letters a consistent size on the line. ClassWeekly's handwriting worksheets run kindergarten through 2nd grade, then hand off to the Cursive Writing hub for 1st grade and up.

The progression is deliberate. Kindergarten starts with pre-writing strokes (straight lines, curves, circles) before a single letter appears, because those three shapes are the building blocks of every letter in the alphabet. From there, kids trace capitals, then lowercase, then numbers, always with a model to copy above a blank practice line. By 1st grade, tracing gives way to independent writing: a shorter model, more blank lines, and a first sentence (usually the child's own name). By 2nd grade, the guide lines get less generous and the content gets harder to copy without a full letter-by-letter model, because that's the point: a 2nd grader should be writing from a distant model, not tracing.

Ten to fifteen minutes a day beats one long weekly session. Handwriting is a motor skill, and motor skills build through short, frequent repetition, the same reason a kid learns to ride a bike faster with daily short rides than one long one on Saturday. If your child reverses letters (b and d are the classic pair), that's normal through about age 7. A worksheet that groups letters by the strokes they share (c, o, a, and d all start with the same curve) usually helps faster than working through the alphabet in order.

Most schools introduce cursive around 2nd or 3rd grade, after print is solid. If your child's handwriting is still forming at the end of 2nd grade, it's worth another few weeks of print practice before starting cursive. A shaky foundation in print usually shows up as shaky cursive too.
