Use it to plan the year, or send it home at the start of the year so families can see every list. The weekly spelling list packs have the same words, with a take-home list and a test page for each week.

Weeks 1 to 12: short vowels with blends, long a: a-e, ai, ay and eigh, long e: ee, ea, e-e, ie and y, long i: i-e, igh, y and ie, long o: o-e, oa, ow, oe and o, long u: u-e, ue, ew and u, vowel teams oo, ou and ew, vowel teams au, aw and al, vowel sounds oi, oy, ou and ow, r-controlled ar and or, r-controlled er, ir, ur and ear, r-controlled air, are and ear. One pattern a week: long vowel spellings, vowel teams and r-controlled vowels in weeks 1 to 12, homophones, silent letters, rules for adding endings, prefixes and suffixes in weeks 13 to 24, then -tion and -sion, compound words, contractions, possessives and math and science words in weeks 25 to 36.

Send the list home on Monday, practice the pattern in class during the week, and give the test on Friday. Keep a few minutes each day for reading and writing the words in sentences.
