How do I use the Reading Bingo Challenge?
⌄
Use it as a monthly or summer reading challenge. Children try for five in a row first, then a full board. Talk about which challenge was the most fun.
What is the Reading Bingo Challenge?
⌄
A one-page 5 by 5 bingo board of reading challenges, such as read outside, read to a pet or a toy, read a poem, read a recipe and read with a flashlight. Children color each square they finish.
Can I use the Reading Bingo Challenge at home and in the classroom?
⌄
Yes. We made it for Kindergarten to 5th Grade reading logs, and it works the same at home or at school. Families print it for one child and keep it where they will use it every day. Teachers print a copy per student or one for the whole room, whichever the day needs.
Which reading log should I use?
⌄
For early readers, the picture log or the color in bookshelf. For a nightly habit, the daily, weekly or 20 minutes a day log. For homework that needs a signature, the parent signature log. Older readers can use the genre tracker or the reading response log.
Which grades are these reading logs for?
⌄
Most work for any grade from kindergarten to 5th. The picture log and bookshelf suit kindergarten to 2nd grade, and the genre tracker and reading response log are for 2nd or 3rd grade and up.
How many minutes should a child read each day?
⌄
Many schools ask for about 20 minutes a day, and the 20 minutes a day log is built around that goal. Younger children can read with a grown-up or listen to a book.
Is there a summer reading log?
⌄
Yes. The summer reading log has columns for June, July and August and a box for a summer reading goal.
