How does learning position words help with other subjects?

Position vocabulary underlies geometry (describing where shapes are relative to each other), later coordinate-grid work, and reading comprehension of directions that use spatial language. A child who can't yet distinguish "behind" from "in front of" will struggle with multi-step instructions well beyond math class.
