Ending Blends in Sentences
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Ending Blends in Sentences" is written for 2nd Grade (Ages 7-8). If your little one is a year younger but already steady on spelling, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and spelling in sentences never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

FAQ
How do I use this spelling in sentences worksheet?
⌄
Have your child read each sentence with the chosen word to check that it makes sense. For ed and ing, ask whether it already happened or is happening now. Check with the answer key.
What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Choose from a bank of 8 ending blend words to finish 8 sentences. A blend is two consonants (not vowels) side by side. You hear each sound. Every word in the word bank ends with a blend, like lk in milk. The directions on the page read: Read the words in the word bank. Then, write the word that best finishes each sentence. The answer key shows every answer.
Can I use this spelling in sentences worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 2nd Grade spelling, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with spelling in sentences. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
Why practice spelling words in sentences?
⌄
Children often spell a word right on a list and wrong in their own writing. Choosing the word that fits a sentence and writing it correctly connects spelling to meaning.
What are beginning and ending blends?
⌄
A blend is two consonants where you hear both sounds. Beginning blends come first, like st in stop, and ending blends come last, like nd in hand.
How does my child choose ed or ing?
⌄
Read the sentence and listen for when it happens. If it already happened, like yesterday, use ed. If it is happening now, with is or are, use ing.
Is there an answer key for each worksheet?
⌄
Yes. All three sheets have an answer key.
How many 2nd Grade spelling in sentences worksheets are there?
⌄
3 printable worksheets, all free to preview. Downloads are included with a ClassWeekly free trial, and every page prints on standard 8.5 x 11 paper.
What age are spelling in sentences worksheets for?
⌄
These are written for 2nd Grade students, roughly ages 7-8. Many teachers also use them a grade up for review or a grade down as an extension, so use the preview to judge the fit for a particular child.
Are these spelling in sentences worksheets aligned to Common Core?
⌄
Yes. Each one shows the Common Core code it covers on its own page, so you can check the alignment yourself rather than taking our word for it.
