Read a Weather Chart
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Read a Weather Chart" is written for 1st Grade (Ages 6-7). If your little one is a year younger but already steady on weather and seasons, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and weather graph never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

1st grade science worksheet: read a week weather chart and key, then answer five questions on sunny, cloudy and rainy days. Answer key included. Part of our weather graph collection. Aligned to NGSS standards.
How do I use this worksheet?
Start with something students can look at or think about: a photo, a short video, a jar on the windowsill, or a question like "what do you already know about weather graph?" Then let them work through the first item together as a class, then finish the rest independently or with a partner, keeping a word bank or anchor chart in view so the vocabulary stays available. When you review, ask students how they knew, and let them point to the part of the diagram or reading that told them. These weather graph worksheets work well as a lead in before an investigation, as a way to capture what students noticed afterward, or as review before an assessment.
What students will practice
- Record daily weather observations using tally marks over at least one week
- Organize weather data into a bar graph showing each type of weather
- Read the completed graph to answer questions about which weather type occurred most and least

What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Read a week weather chart and key, then answer five questions on sunny, cloudy and rainy days. A weather chart uses pictures to show what the weather was like each day. The directions on the page read: Read the key. Then, look at the chart. Then, answer each question on the line. The answer key shows every answer.
Can I use this weather graph worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 1st Grade weather and seasons, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with weather graph. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
What do weather graph worksheets teach first graders?
⌄
First graders learn to observe weather daily, record data using tally marks, and organize results into a simple bar graph. They then practice reading the graph to answer questions like 'How many sunny days were there?' and 'Which type of weather happened most often?' This builds scientific habits of mind alongside foundational math skills in data and graphing.
When do first graders learn to graph weather?
⌄
Weather graphing is typically integrated into a Grade 1 weather unit, often as an ongoing activity throughout a month. Teachers assign students a weather journal or class weather chart, and worksheets help students summarize and analyze the data collected. The activity is common in both science and math instruction at this level.
How can I use these worksheets at home?
⌄
Start a weather calendar together, each morning have your child look outside and record the weather with a tally mark in the correct column. After one or two weeks, transfer the tallies to the bar graph on the worksheet and read the results together. Reviewing the graph at the end of the month gives a satisfying sense of data collected over real time.
How many 1st Grade weather graph worksheets are there?

What age are weather graph worksheets for?
