Properties of water worksheets help Grade 2 students (ages 7-8) investigate the unique physical characteristics of water, including its ability to exist as a solid, liquid, and gas, its surface tension, and its role as a universal solvent. Children explore how water's special properties make it essential for all living things. These pages deepen both Earth science and physical science understanding. Part of our earth and water worksheets collection.

FAQ
What do properties of water worksheets teach second graders?⌄
Students learn to observe and describe water's states of matter, its surface tension, its ability to dissolve many substances, and the way it expands when it freezes. For 7-8 year olds, each of these properties can be demonstrated with simple kitchen or bathroom experiments that make the science tangible.
When do second graders learn about properties of water?⌄
Properties of water appear in Grade 2 Earth science in water and weather units, and also connect to physical science lessons on states of matter. The cross-topic nature of water science makes it a rich thread that runs through much of the Grade 2 science curriculum.
How can I use these worksheets at home?⌄
Test water's properties together during bath time or in the kitchen, float a needle on the surface using a fork (surface tension), dissolve sugar and salt and compare rates, freeze a water-filled container to observe expansion. Each experiment gives your child data to record on the worksheets.
